The Crosstrainer/Elliptical Machine is Useless for Fat Loss

If you are using an elliptical-type machine for intervals, then I believe that you are not getting the results you deserve. In my opinion, the elliptical machines are one of the least effective methods for losing fat - just as bad as spinning classes (which I’ll cover in a future newsletter).

Now you might know someone that is uses the elliptical all the time and is lean. But I will be the farm that they can thank their genetics, their strength training, and their nutrition for their results. I have yet to see someone transform their physique with the elliptical trainer. In fact, when someone comes to me with a failing program, I often see them using the elliptical for their interval training. And that’s the first things I change.

Using An Elliptical Trainer For Weight Loss And Fitness

My second favorite form of cardio exercise is using an elliptical trainer (First is mountain biking). Elliptical trainers make your weight loss cardio program quiet, low impact, and challenging.

Elliptical trainers are kind of a combination of rowing, cross country skiing, and bicycling. You move all major muscle groups in a very fluid, low impact way. A high quality elliptical trainer is very solid, (No jerky motions) quiet, and usually comes with a display that will let you know the amount of time you have been riding, calories burned, mileage, etc.

Many people ask if the use of elliptical trainers is a good way to burn calories.

One simple answer: Yes! Very much so.

Elliptical trainers are a great way to burn calories and are a fun workout at the same time. If you goal is to loose weight you do have to understand how a “calorie diet” works. To shed the unwanted weight you must burn more calories than you take in. Put simply, you must burn more calories than you eat. So if you decide to eat the slice of pizza be ready to do a ton of exercise to work that off.
